Humboldt State Men’s Soccer Announces This Year’s Newcomers

Humboldt State head men’s soccer coach Fred Jungemann has announced this year’s newcomers in Solomon Baxter, Sam Daitch, Nathan Epps, Slater Hammer, Oliver Horgan, Nicholas Ingrande, Nicolas Roberto Herrera Land, Diego Ramos, Ramiro Rosas, Milan Uncanin and Sage Urbaez. 

 “Losing our season last fall has really scrambled our roster and we have an unusually large incoming class for 2021 as a result,” said Jungemann.  “It is a really strong class though, with a lot of talent and athleticism.  We are excited to see the positive impact they will have on our program.”

 The Lumberjacks will begin their season this weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah.  They will face Westminster this Thursday at 7:30pm (MT) and Northwest Nazarene this Saturday at 4:30pm (MT).

 Solomon “Hawk” Baxter

Baxter scored 18 goals and assisted on eight goals in 37 matches during his interscholastic career at Franklin High School in Portland, Ore.  During the 2019 season, Baxter was named to the First Team All-League Team.  He was a member of the 2020 NWNL Championship Team as well as the 2018 NWNL Championship Team.  Baxter and his teammates captured the OSAA State Cup Championship in 20115, 2018 and 2020.  He was a member of the Honor Roll at Franklin High School all four of his high school years.  “

“Hawk has good size and athleticism and is strong defensive midfielder.  He also has the ability to play several other positions, which is very valuable.  He has is competitive and has a strong mentality.”

 Sam Daitch

Daitch recorded nine shutouts and posted a 0.66 goals against average this past season for San Dieguito Academy.  He gave up just five goals in 675 minutes in goal during this past season.  Daitch earned Second Team All-Coastal League Honors and was the Coaches Award for Leadership and Character recipient.  During the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Daitch was the Defensive Most Valuable Player.  He was named to the All-Conference Academic Team in 2019 and 2020 and graduated with Honors from San Dieguito Academy.

“Sam is a technical and smart goalkeeper who comes from strong club and high school teams.  He has a great deal of potential and will bring quality depth to our goalkeeper position.”

 Nathan Epps

During his junior season, Epps earned Second Team All-CIF honors.  He scored two goals and was a member of the Helix Charter HS team that picked up a CIF Championship victory.  During his senior season, Epps scored one goal and had an assist with two clean sheets in two tournaments.  As a member of the Sporting San Diego Club, Epps was a part of the 2021 Man City Championship Team.  Epps was a 2021 Honor Graduate of Helix Charter High School.

“Nathan has a strong and imposing defensive presence.  He is exceptional in the air and has good speed for a big, physical central defender.  He can also play wide back and will be a great addition to our mostly younger defensive group.”

 Slater Hammer

This past season, Hammer scored one goals and assisted on seven in eleven matches.  During his junior season, Hammer scored two goals and had six assists in 20 matches.  The two-year starter earned First Team All-Sunset League Honors during his senior season and Second Team All-League honors his junior season.  He was a three-year starter for the Slammers ECNL Team, which competed they competed against the top teams in the nation in the ECNL Southwest Division, Showcases and Play-offs.  Besides his honors on the pitch, Hammer was a two-time All-Academic All-Sunset honoree and the HBHS student-athlete award recipient.  Hammer was the recipient of the Mel Mermelstein ASF Scholarship Award and received a seal of biliteracy.

“Along with size and strength, Slater is also a smart defender with quality distribution skills… particularly with his left foot.  He plays with a lot of composure and will be another quality addition to our young defense.”

 Oliver Horgan

Horgan finished his senior season scoring seven goals and assisting on 12 goals.  In 2020, Horgan and his teammates placed first in the NPL NorCal League.  He was selected for the Reno1868 USL Academy and was scouted for the PDP Poocin in 2020.  Horgan was a member of the Nevada United Club Team that captured the 2018 US Club National Championship.  His team was ranked number one nationally in 2019.

“Oliver comes to us from a very strong club team where he was a big part of their success.  He has good size, athleticism, and speed and has a lot of potential to be any impact for us in the midfield or up front.”

 Nicholas Ingrande

Ingrande scored nine goals and had five assists this past season in 18 games for Helix Charter High School.  As a member of the Sporting San Diego Club Team, Ingrande scored five goals and had five assists in eight games heading into the 2021 Surf Cup.  He scored the game-winner in the 2021 Man City Cup Finals.

 “Nick is a complete midfielder or attacking player who seems to have an endless supply of energy.  He has an incredible work rate and ability to cover ground, and will bring us a lot of offensive and defensive quality.”

 Nicolas Roberto Herrera-Land

Herrera-Land was a member of the Novato Charter High School soccer team during his scholastic career.  He is a 6-1, 175 forward from Novato.  Herrera-Land also was a member of the Marin FC Club Team.

“Nico is an extraordinary combination of size, speed, and attacking quality.  He has great instincts in front of goal and also works very hard pressing and supporting off the ball.  We are looking forward to watching his development and impact on our program.”

 Diego Ramos

This past season, Ramos earned First Team All-NCS honors and was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player.  During his junior season, Ramos was a First Team All-League selection.  Ramos scored nine goals and had 20 assists during his interscholastic career at Ygnacio Valley High School including scoring a

career high four goals and recording a career high 12 assists this past season.

 “Diego is coming off an ACL injury which has kept him off the field for almost a year.  He is a skillful, fast, and dynamic outside back with the potential to play in attack as well.  We are looking forward to seeing Diego regain his health and getting back out on the field”

 Ramiro Rosas

Rosas was the 2019-20 Player of the Year for the NCS along with being the Most Valuable Player of the EBAL.  He also was a First Team All-League honoree in 2019-20 and a 2018-19 Second All-League Team member.

“Ramiro is a remarkably talented player with a deadly left foot, both in distribution and finishing.  He is very strong in 1v1 situations, but also has great vision and passing range.  He will be an exciting addition to our group of talented attacking players.

 Milan Uncanin

Uncanin scored three goals and had two assists this past season in eight games while posting six clean sheets.  The 2021 HYSA Senior All-Star selection was named to the 2021 Rush select team.  He received an invitation to the ODP Hawaii team and regional in 2017, 2018 and 2019.  This past academic year, he was named to the 2021 President’s List at Mid-Pacific and was a two-time Honor Roll member. 

 Jungemann on Uncanin---

“Milan is very athletic and quick for such a tall player.  He has the ability to play several positions, but plays mostly as a center back.  He is a strong defender, who is good in the air, and very composed on the ball.  He is calm and confident on both sides of the ball and will be another strong addition to our young defense.”

 Sage Urbaez

Urbaez was the Most Valuable Varsity Soccer Player this past season at Sir Francis Drake High School.  During his sophomore season, Urbaez scored two goal and had an assist.  Sir Francis Drake recorded their first pennant winning season that year in nine years.  He scored five goals for Club Marin FC in 20 matches during his junior season.

 “Sage is a true competitor.  He has an amazing mentality and work rate and can play anywhere in the midfield or defense.  He is hungry to grow and develop and is the kind of player every coach would want 15 of.  We are excited to see the impact he will have on our program.”
