Humboldt State University head men’s basketball coach Tae Norwood has announced the hiring of Andy Harre as the Lumberjacks’ top assistant men’s basketball coach.  Harre comes to HSU from Savannah State University (SSU) where he was the assistant women’s basketball coach for the past five seasons.

 “We are very excited to add Andy (Harre) to our coaching staff,” said coach Norwood.  “I have known Andy for over 10 years and had the pleasure to coach alongside him at the NCAA Division 1 level. His selfless commitment to excellence and his positive enthusiasm will be beneficial in the development of the young men in our program. Throughout Andy’s 14 years of collegiate experience, he has a proven track record in developing the totality of the student-athlete.”

 During this past season, Harre and head coach Cedric Baker led SSU to a 5-2 record including a 4-1 record at home during the 2021 campaign.  In 2019-20, the Tigers posted a 15-8 record, their best since the 2014-15 season, where they won the MEAC Conference tournament and qualified for the NCAA Division 1 Tournament.  Harre helped recruit and coach consecutive freshman of the year in the MEAC and SIAC, along with 4 all conference players.

 In his first stint at SSU from 2012-14, he spent the two seasons as the special assistant to Head Men’s Basketball Coach Horace Broadnax.  He helped lead the Tigers to a post-season appearance in the College Invitational Tournament and the Tigers finished top 5 nationally in field goal percentage defense. Harre assisted with scouting, reporting and cultivating academic and athletic talent with student-athletes. During his two seasons, coach Harre saw 7 players go on to play professionally

 Harre coached at Grffin High School in Griffin, Georgia, in between his two stints at SSU.  He posted a 26-24 record as the head boys’ basketball coach at Griffin HS.  During the 2014-15 season, the Bears posted a 20-8 record, the first 20-win season in the last ten seasons and earned a berth to the State Tournament, for the first time in four years.

 Prior to coming to SSU in 2012, Harre was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Grambling State University for one season.  Harre served as the recruiting coordinator.

 From 2006-11, Harre was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Clayton State University.  He played a key role in the development of two All-Americans and eight All-Conference players.  Harre helped guide CSU to a No. 2 national ranking, two trips to the NCAA Tournament, a trip to the Sweat Sixteen and Round of 32 while also capturing a conference tournament.

 Prior to CSU, Harre was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Seminole State College.  The Melbourne, Florida, native started his coaching career with Oviedo High School in Oviedo, Fla., from 2003-05 as an assistant coach.  The team went 45-10 in two seasons and went to the Elite 8 in FHSAA in 2004-05.

 Harre played for Florida Southern College from 1998-2000 and went to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 1999 and Elite 8 in 2000.  FSC went 60-10 during those seasons and finished in the top-five national poll, including being No. 1 in 2000 and finishing the regular season ranked No. 1 in all national polls.

The newest member to the Lumberjack coaching staff, Harre received an Associate Degree from Brevard Community College in 2001 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from the University of Central Florida in 2004.
