September 1, 2021

Humboldt State head men’s basketball coach Tae Norwood has announced the final additions to the 2021-22 Lumberjack men’s basketball roster.  These newcomers are Will Johnson, Thomas Melonja, Andrew Mork, Thomas Nelson, Cam Timmons and Alonzo Washington.  They will join the three that already signed earlier this summer in Jaden Edwards, Brandon Recek and Jacob Washington.

“When you look at this class, it is a wonderful mix,” said Norwood. “We have a tremendous group of young men joining our program. We have freshmen, junior college and four-year transfers that are coming in, all that are bringing tremendous value to not only who we are, but to where we are going. This recruiting class of student-athletes is going to help to continue to push our program to new heights.”

Will Johnson (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter HS/University of Oregon).

Johnson was two-time All-City performer and two-time All-Western League honoree during his time at Palisades Charter High School.  In 2015-16, Johnson was the Co-Most Valuable Player of the Western League. Johnson was a member of the University of Oregon Ducks’ men’s basketball team that participated in the NCAA Division I Tournament.

Thomas Melonja (McMurray, Penn./Peters Township HS/University of the Sciences)

Melonja was named to the 2018 First Team All-Section as well as the 2019 All-West Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Conference Second Team.  He was a member of the 2016 and 2017 WPIAL Runner-up Teams and the 2018 WPIAL Championship Team.  In 2017, Melonja was a member of the Peters Township High Team that were state finalists.

 Andrew Mork (Oakley, Calif./Freedom HS/California-Pa)

Mork was the Team’s Most Valuable Player at Freedom High School.  He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sac Tournament.   The Oakley, Calif., native was named to the First Team All-League at Las Positas College.

Thomas Nelson (Fortuna, Calif./Arcata HS/Flagler College)

Nelson is transferring to Humboldt State from Flagler College.  He was the Most Valuable Player for the GVC and HDN.  Nelson was named to the First Team All-State when he played at College of the Redwoods.  He was a member of the Flagler College team this past season that advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Cam Timmons (Ashburn, Va.,/Highland HS/Howard University)

The Howard University transfer was a two-time First Team All-Conference honoree at Highland High School in Warrenton, Virginia.  While at Howard, he competed in five contests during the 2020-21 season.

 Alonzo Washington (Concord, Calif./DeLaSalle HS)

Washington was a Second Team All-BVAL honoree during his time at DeLaSalle High School.  He is the son of Mark and Miriam Washington.

“I really thing we were able to address many of the needs that we had, not only immediately, but also for what the future holds,” added Norwood.  “Definitely, grateful to all of the families and the student-athletes who allowed us to recruit them, allowed us into that journey.  My assistant coaches did a tremendous job of building relationships with these young men.  It’s my hope that we can return Lumberjack basketball to its glory days.”
