Humboldt State Lumberjacks Ranked No. 13 In This Week’s United Soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Top 25 Rankings

September 21, 2021

Humboldt State Lumberjacks are ranked number 13 in this week’s United Soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Top 25 Rankings that were released this morning by the United Soccer Coaches.  The 5-0 Lumberjacks were receiving votes in last week’s rankings.  They are the only California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) ranked in this week’s poll.  Cal State San Bernardino is receiving votes.

The Lumberjacks, under the guidance of head coach Fred Jungemann, are 5-0 after defeating Simpson University 1-0 this past Friday afternoon at College Creek Field.  This was the Lumberjacks’ fifth straight shutout to open up the 2021 campaign.  The five straight shutouts are a school record for consecutive shutouts.  HSU had a six-match winning streak during the 2017 season and the longest winning streak in school history of seven which happened in 1985.

Humboldt State’s defense has allowed no goals in the first five matches for the ‘Jacks.  Adrian Gallardo has posted a 0.00 goals against average with 11 saves in the four matches in goal for HSU.  Jacob Cotton recorded the shutout in this past Friday’s win over Simpson.  HSU’s defense has been keyed by the play of defenders Hawk Baxter, Ethan Conaty, Cole Falco, Christian Gonzalez, Dylan Tovani and Sean Tucker along with goalkeepers Gallardo and Cotton.

Over on the offensive side, Marco Silveira leads the ‘Jacks with his team high four goals, six assists and 14 points. He is tied with Alex Lopez for the team lead each with two game-winning goals.  Dylan Tovani has the other game-winner for the ‘Jacks.  Lopez has scored three goals and added an assist for Humboldt State.  Daniel Adeyeye and Nico Herrera Land each have scored a goal and recorded three assists while Tovani has scored two goals.

Humboldt State will return to the pitch this Saturday, September 25 at 12:30pm when the Lumberjacks host Chico State in a rare non-conference match with the Wildcats at College Creek Field.
