Humboldt State Crew Assists with the Annual California Coastal Clean-Up Day
This past Saturday afternoon, the Humboldt State women’s crew team along with the Lumberjack men’s crew club team participated in the California Coastal Clean-Up. The two teams helped cleaned up the area at Halvorsen Park and the surrounding are. Coastal Clean Up month is put on by the North Coast Environmental Center.
“We get to see the bay every day while on the water,’ noted Humboldt State head women’s crew coach Matt Weise. “This event allowed our team to appreciate the shore around the bay and be part of the community.
“It was a great feeling to give back to the community and clean up the area around where we row every morning,” said Humboldt State women’s crew student-athlete Malia Seeley
“It’s been hard interacting with new people but the beach cleanup finally let our team meet and bond with the women’s team, and come together and trying to make the world a cleaner place, one plastic piece at a time,” added Lumberjack men’s club crew student-athlete Bryant Gonzalez.
Assisting with organizing this day was Humboldt State Assistant Women’s Crew Coach and Lumberjack Head Men’s Crew Club Coach Ashley Donnell. "It was a beautiful day to work with our community to help clean up the waterfront,’ said Donnell. “There was much less trash than years past which is exciting to know we are making an impact. I love where we live"
