ARCATA, Calif..---  After going 4-1 in its season-long five game home stand, Humboldt State will be on the road for a pair of conference games at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay this week. The Lumberjacks will be in Pomona this Thursday, December 5 for a 7:30pm scheduled contest with Cal Poly Pomona.  They will travel to Seaside this Saturday, December 7 for a 3pm scheduled tip-off with Cal State Monterey Bay.  HSU enters this weekend with a 5-2 overall record and a 1-1 CCAA record. 

 

RECAP OF THE WEEK:  Humboldt State defeated Portland Bible 92-61 in its last game this past Saturday evening in Arcata.  Five players scored in double digits led by Jackson Strong’s 13 points.  Isaiah Pope chipped in 12 points off the bench while Leland Green and Rob Lewis each added 11 points and Isaiah Sampson scored 10 points. Zachariah Christian had eight points and a team high 10 rebounds for the ‘Jacks.

 

UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  HSU enters this week with a 5-2 overall record and a 1-1 CCAA record after going 4-1 in its five-game home stand.  The Lumberjacks are averaging 87.9 points per game while giving up 82.3 points per game.  They are out-rebounding their opponents 36.1 to 34.0.  The ‘Jacks are averaging 15.6 assists per game while forcing 15.7 turnovers per game and recording 7.1 steals per game.  They are shooting 47% from the field and 38% from three’s while connecting on 73.9% of their attempts from the line. 

 

LUMBERJACK LEADERS:  Five player are averaging double digits in scoring for the Lumberjacks in RaySean Scott Jr. (24.3 ppg), Leland Green (15.0 ppg), Rob Lewis (14.9 ppg), Jackson Strong (13.1 ppg) and Zachariah Christian (10.2 ppg).   Christian leads the team with his 57.7% shooting from the field while Strong has made a team high 25 three’s and connected on a team leading 43.9% of his attempts from beyond the arc.  He also leads the team with his 92.9% shooting from the charity stripe.  Scott leads HSU with his 8.0 rebounding average and five blocked shots.  Leland Green has dished out a team leading 24 assists and Isaiah Pope has recorded a team high eight steals.

 

DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Rob Lewis recorded his second double-double of the season in the Lumberjacks’ 93-81 win over Cal State L.A. Lewis scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while blocking two shots and dishing out two assists.  Lewis’ first double-double of the season came in HSU’s 89-81 win over Fresno Pacific on Nov. 9. 

 

16-4:  Humboldt State is 16-4 at home since the beginning of the 2018-19 season.  The ‘Jacks are 4-1 this season with their only blemish the loss to Sonoma State this past Wednesday. 

 

114 THREE’S: In his two-year career at Humboldt State, Jackson Strong has made 114 three’s in his career.  He is nine three’s from moving past Grayson Moyer (2004-08) into tenth place on HSU’s all-time career list.  Ernie Spada (2008-11) holds the all-time career mark in three’s with 202. 

 

RANKED NATIONALLY:  Jackson Strong is 20th in the nation with his 25 three’s made this season.  He is also 28th with his 3.57 three’s made per game average.

 

ANOTHER GOOD START:  The Lumberjacks are off to another 5-2 start as three of the last four seasons they have started the season 5-2.  In 2015-16, HSU started 11-2 and finished 21-9.

 

BRONCOS IN REVIEW:  Cal Poly Pomona is 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA after defeating Texas A&M International 75-45 this past Saturday.  The Broncos are averaging 78.3 points per game while giving up 61.6 points per game.  They are being out-rebounded 36.6 to 33.3 rebounds per game.  William Christman leads the way for CPP with his 19.1 scoring and 6.7 rebounding averages as well as his 26 assists, 18 steals and 80% shooting from the line.  Riley Schaefer is averaging 15.1 points per game while Justin Young is shooting a team best 60% from the field and BJ Standley has a team leading 44% shooting from three’s.  Tavian Henderson leads CPP with his 13 steals.  The Broncos lead the all-time series 14-7 including winning both meetings last season 85-67 in Pomona and 82-65 in Arcata.  The Lumberjacks last won over the Broncos on Dec. 31, 2018, a 70-65 win in Pomona. 

 

OTTERS IN REVIEW:  Cal State Monterey Bay is 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA after losing 85-82 in overtime at Sonoma State this past Saturday afternoon.  The Otters will face Stanislaus State on Thursday before facing the ‘Jacks.  They are averaging 79.5 points per game while giving up 82.1 points per game.  CSUMB is out-rebounding its opponents 35.1 to 33.3.  Three players are averaging double digits in Damian Wilson (15.0 ppg), Jahven Johnson (13.6 ppg) and Maurice Woods (11.4 ppg).  Wilson is averaging a team leading 4.5 rebounds per game while Woods has a team leading 15 assists.  Johnson leads the team with his 47% shooting from three’s and 88% shooting from the line.  HSU leads the all-time series with the Otters 26-5 including winning seven of the last ten meetings.  The Lumberjacks won 68-61 in Seaside and 76-64 in Arcata in 2018-19.
