Humboldt State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Teamed Up with Go4theGoal for Pediatric Cancer

December 15, 2021

Humboldt State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) teamed up with Go4theGoal to raise funds and awareness for kids with cancer in the State of California.  HSU’s SAAC raised $525.00 by selling pairs of shoe laces at a recent Lumberjack volleyball match, men’s basketball and women’s basketball doubleheader.

“Working with Go4theGoal has been such a rewarding experience,” said Humboldt State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Co-President Macy Thomas.  “It was so cool to see our HSU teams united in gold laces, raising awareness for pediatric cancer and raising money for this great cause. The community showed great support, generously donating and buying laces for themselves. Between our Jacks and the community, we raised $525. I would like to thank Nick from Go4theGoal, for reaching out to us and being so helpful in bringing Lace Up to our teams, the community for being so supportive like always, and to the volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, and cheer teams for participating in Lace Up!”

At the last two home Humboldt State volleyball matches on November 11 and 13, along with the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders on December 2 and 4, the SAAC sold gold shoe laces for $5/pair. $4 from every pair sold and 100% of any additional donations were used to provide financial support for kids battling cancer and their families.

"I really enjoyed being involved with Lace-Up,” added Humboldt State SAAC Executive Board member Grace Kasberger.  “ I think this is a great way to help children in hospitals. The athletes and community can show their support by wearing gold laces and ribbons that were sold and handed out at the table. I can't wait to see everyone laced up!"

The Lumberjack volleyball, women’s basketball and men’s basketball players along with members of Humboldt State’s Cheer Team wore gold shoe laces on those four dates in awareness of pediatric cancer.
