As announced by the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) office this morning, Humboldt State junior guard Jaden Edwards has been named the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 6-12.  Edwards played a key role in the Lumberjacks’ 2-0 weekend including their 66-53 road CCAA win over Stanislaus State. 

 Edwards averaged 26.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the two games.  He shot 56.1% from the field while connecting on two of his attempts from beyond the arc and going four-for-six from the free throw line.  Edwards had a blocked shot and a steal also for the ‘Jacks.

 The Portland, Ore., native started the week scoring 41 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the Lumberjacks’ 85-68 non-conference over Simpson University at home this past Thursday, Edwards scored a season high 41 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  He went 18-for-23 from the field including two-of-three from beyond the arc.

 Edwards finished the week scoring 13 points and grabbing a season high 17 rebounds.  He shot six-for-19 from the field and connected on his only attempt from the free throw stripe in leading HSU to a 66-53 road conference win over Stanislaus State.

 For the season, Edwards has recorded six double-doubles including one each of the Lumberjacks’ last four games.  He is currently sixth in the nation in NCAA Division II double-doubles and 16th with his 10.4 rebounding average.  The junior transfer is averaging 19.1 points and 10.4 rebounds while shooting 47.2% from the field.  He has connected on 34.5% of his attempts from beyond the arc and 74.3% of his attempts from the charity stripe.  Edwards has recorded 12 steals, blocked four shots and dished out 10 assists. 

 HSU (7-2, 1-2 CCAA) will continue its three-game road trip with a pair of CCAA games this Saturday, December 18 at nationally ranked Chico State (7:30pm) and this Monday, December 20 at Sonoma State (7:30pm).  The ‘Jacks will return home on Sunday, January 2 to entertain Sonoma State with a 3pm scheduled tip-off at Lumberjack Arena.
