Humboldt State’s Izzy Starr Named to 2021 Academic All-District Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA

The awards keep coming in for Humboldt State’s softball player Izzy Starr.  As announced this morning, Starr was named to the 2021 Academic All-District Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA.  This is the fifth award that Starr has received this post-season which includes being named Humboldt State’s forty-seventh All-American as she was named to the 2021 NFCA All-American Team in May.

 Starr was named to the District 8 Team which consists of teams from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the PacWest Conference. 

 In late May, as earlier stated, Starr was named to the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Team.  Starr became the forty-seventh Humboldt State softball player to earn this honor and first since 2017 when Kalyn Paque earned this honor.

 Back in mid-May, Starr was named to the NFCA Division II All-West Region Team as well as the D2CCA All-West Region Team.  In early May, Starr was named to the 2021 Schutt Sports/NFCA DII Player and Pitcher of the Year Top 30 list.  She was one of thirty student-athletes that were selected as finalists for this prestigious honor.

 Starr led the Lumberjacks with her .468 batting average, .957 slugging percentage, six home runs and 45 total bases.  The sophomore player started in all 14 games for the 8-6 Lumberjacks. She tied for the team lead with 22 hits with Micaela Harris. Starr scored 13 runs while posting a .468 on-base percentage. She had three doubles and one triple while striking out just once in 47 at bats. 

 During the season, Starr had an eight-game hitting streak while hitting reaching base safely in 11 of the Lumberjacks’ 14 games.  On April 10 at Central Washington, Starr went four-for-four with four runs scored.  The week before at Saint Martin’s on April 6, Starr went three-for-four with four runs batted in, scoring two runs and hitting two home runs.

 First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-July.

 The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

 The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
