Humboldt State’s Brailee VandenBoom Named To 2020 CCAA Women’s Track & Field All-Star Team
ARCATA, Calif.--- Humboldt State’s Brailee VandenBoom was named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Track & Field All-Star Team.
With the global COVID-19 pandemic suspending and subsequently ending the 2019-20 college athletics season in mid-March, it became an impossibility to properly bestow all-conference honors for spring sports. As a result, the CCAA is pleased to announce the first, and hopefully last, CCAA All-Star Teams, in a fun effort to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments across the league during the abbreviated 2020 campaign.
After the CCAA Softball and Baseball All-Star Teams were unveiled the last two weeks, today, we reveal the 2020 CCAA Women’s Track & Field All-Star Team, with the men scheduled to follow next week.
The list of 32 student-athletes mirrors the championship roster size for CCAA track & field, and is not bound by specific events. All 13 programs were guaranteed one representative to showcase talent across the league. These standout performers were submitted for consideration by the league’s women’s track & field sports information contacts, with additional nominees listed, by school, at the bottom.
The All-Stars are selected based solely on performances and marks achieved during the shortened spring season, therefore some big names in the sport are absent based on the limited number of competition dates. Each individual picked has a worthy standard set during the 2020 outdoor season to earn their All-Star selection.
VandenBoom’s jump of 1.63m (5-4-25) in the high jump tied for third on the CCAA performance list with Chico State’s Nadia Torkman. She tied with Torkman for first place at the Kim Duyst Invitational on March 7 in Turlock.
At the 2019 CCAA Track & Field Championships, VandenBoom finished in second placed second in the high jump with a jump of 1.62m (5-3.75) to earn All-CCAA Honors. In 2018, she earned All-USTFCCCA All-Region honors. VandenBoom is currently third in school history in the high jump with a jump of 5.7.75 which she recorded in 2018. She is also fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.38 which she ran in 2018. The senior is also seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 25.55 which she accomplished in 2019.
