Humboldt’s Jaden Edwards Named Two-Time CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

January 25, 2022

Humboldt’s junior transfer Jaden Edwards has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 17-23. This is the second time that Edwards has received this honor this season and third time that a ‘Jacks has earned this honor.  Cam Timmons received this honor for the week of December 30-January 2.

Edwards averaged 15.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in Humboldt’s 2-0 week on the road in the CCAA.  The Portland, Ore., shot 50% from the field including 44% from three-point range while recording two steals.  He also went two-for-four from the charity stripe.

The Lumberjack guard started the week with a 17-point, 11-rebound performance in Humboldt’s 67-63 win at Cal State East Bay on Thursday.  He came back on Saturday in Carson with a 13-point, 12-rebound performance in the Lumberjacks’ 66-45 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.  This were his seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season.

For the season, Edwards is averaging 16.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game while shooting 47.7% from the field and 38% from three-point range.  He has connected on 72% of his attempts from the charity stripe.  Edwards has recorded 20 steals and dished out 21 assists while averaging 31.2 minutes of playing time.

The three CCAA player of the week honors by Humboldt (10-6, 4-6 CCAA) this season is the most since 2014-15 when the ‘Jacks had four.  The three this season is also second most by a CCAA team this season. Cal State San Bernardino has four with Brandon Knapper receiving the honor three times and Darius Mickens once.

The ‘Jacks will return home to Lumberjack Arena for a pair of CCAA contests.  They will host nationally ranked Chico State this Thursday, January 27 at 7:30pm.  Then on Saturday, January 29, Humboldt will entertain Stanislaus State also at 7:30pm.
