May 8, 2017

CHICO, Calif. – The Humboldt State women finished in third place, while the men's squad ranked fifth as the California Collegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships wrapped Saturday afternoon.

"Words cannot describe how proud I am of this group of girls and guys," said HSU Assistant Coach Sarah Ingram. "So many hard fought PRs and personal goals reached, especially these seniors who I have been working with over the past 4-5 years. They have grown tremendously as competitors and developed into such wonderful people. I feel so lucky to have had the pleasure of working along side them, and it will be sad to see them go. Although the season's not over yet, I am looking forward to our best finish at Nationals, possibly in school history, in three weeks."

Ten Lumberjacks collected All-Conference honors and several individual awards went to the Green and Gold. Marissa McCay earned the women's High Point Award and was named the women's Field Athlete of the Meet, and Alyssabeth DeJerez was tabbed the women's Track Athlete of the Week. McCay, Dejerez, Ariel Oliver, Kori Gilley, Tatiana Gillick, Ellie Earle-Rouse, Calvin Herman, Dustyn Salomon, Chase Wheeler and Teigan Eilers earned All-CCAA honors.

McCay finished first in the heptathlon, which concluded Friday afternoon, and she continued to build on her success Saturday. The McKinleyville, Calif., native placed first in the triple jump (12.26m), second in the high jump (1.73m), third in the long jump (5.80m), third in the 100m hurdles (14.45) and sixth in the shot put (12.03m).

Another top finisher for the women's team was Earle-Rouse. The freshman finished sixth in the triple jump (11.08m), but made her biggest statement in the high jump. Earle-Rouse's 1.78m result ties her for the top spot in the program record book with McCay and is tied for first place in the national rankings.

DeJerez collected Track Athlete of the Meet honors after finishing first in the 400m (54.59) and the 400m hurdles (1:00.38). The senior from Bonita, Calif., also contributed to her team's fifth-place finish in the 4x100.

Other notable women's track finishes included a first-place result for Gillick in the 1500m (4:32.94) and a third-place finish for Gilley in the 3000m steeplechase (10:35.61).

Oliver put together a pair of dominating performances in the field events. The senior placed second in the shot put (14.31m) and first in the discus (50.68).

On the men's side, Herman finished the 400m hurdles in 53.57, which was good for second place. He earned a fourth place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.13.
