HSU Observes Native American Day, Sept. 25

Humboldt State University will recognize Native American Day this Friday, Sept. 25. The day honors Native American cultures and contributions to the State of California.
On campus, there will be screenings of two films followed by discussions.
Thursday, Sept. 24
Members of Indian Tribal & Educational Personnel Program (ITEPP) will present a screening of the documentary "Reel Injun," which examines the portrayal of Native Americans in American cinema. Members of ITEPP will lead a discussion after the film.
The event will be in the bottom floor of the "J" and begins at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Friday, Sept. 25
Members of the Coalition of American Indian Faculty & Staff (CAIFS) will present a screening of "The Canary Effect: Kill the Indian, Save the Man.” The film features interviews with leading scholars and experts on Indian issues. Members of CAIFS will lead a discussion after the film.
The event will be in Siemens Hall, Room 117 and begins at noon. It is free and open to the public.
