Dear HSU Community,

As you know, the U.S. Supreme Court has recently heard oral arguments in regard to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. It is widely anticipated that their ruling will likely be issued near the end of June 2020, but may come as early as January 2020. During these uncertain times, we recognize the added stress and difficulty this places on our DACA and undocumented students and their families.

With this acknowledgement, we would like to firmly reassert our commitment to being an inclusive campus which provides access and support for all students, staff, and faculty members within our HSU community. We will continue to support and uphold California State University policies and the State of California’s laws that provide for reduced tuition for eligible DACA and undocumented students, that provide access to scholarships and state-based financial aid programs, and that removes our university police department from engagement in law enforcement activities that have the sole purpose of “the enforcement of federal immigration laws”.

We will also continue to collaborate with the CSU and the California Department of Social Services to make available free legal immigration assistance to HSU students, staff, and faculty, through partnership with CHIRLA, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights. We will also continue to offer campus-based relief for our DACA and undocumented students through the good work of the Associated Students funded program, Scholars Without Borders, located at the Multicultural Center; as well as the HSU campus liaison collaboration that includes the Financial Aid Office, Housing, Student Financial Services, EOP and many other offices.

In the coming month, please also note the following opportunities:

• In collaboration with CHIRLA, HSU will host a FREE DACA RENEWAL CLINIC on December 6th & 7th, which includes funding to cover the $495 USCIS fee for the first 20 DACA Renewals (provided by CHIRLA).
• On December 11th, HSU will host a live webcast on “Demystifying Immigration Policies”, sponsored through a collaboration with the CSU Office of the Chancellor, the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC), and the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
