HSU Appoints Sherie Gordon as Interim Chief of Staff
Sherie Cornish Gordon will be joining Humboldt State University as interim Chief of Staff in the President's Office. In this position, she will be responsible for coordinating important campus-wide initiatives, interfacing with internal and external constituents, and working closely with strategic initiatives and operations. This will involve close collaboration across campus.
Gordon comes to HSU from Albany State University in Georgia, where she has been serving as Director of Athletics. She has accepted the position on an extended interim basis, and will begin on Monday, July 15.
"I have had the opportunity to get to know Sherie through her work and participation in associations at the national level, and she is highly respected," said HSU President Tom Jackson, Jr. "I was thrilled when she expressed an interest in working at HSU. She's going to be a real asset for this University."
The Chief of Staff position has been held vacant for many years. President Jackson said he views it as essential to efficiently managing campus operations and maintaining a focus on top priorities - such as enrollment, athletics, community relations, excellence, student success, diversity and inclusion, global engagement, and funding.
Sherie brings experience and perspective that will be valuable to HSU, particularly related to project management, engagement of internal and external stakeholders, corporate relations, strategic planning and student success. Prior to her time at Albany State University, Sherie served at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in Charlotte, North Carolina as the Senior Associate Commissioner for External & Business Administration. She has also held senior management positions at Norfolk State University in Virginia.
In all of her roles, Sherie has demonstrated a clear passion for student success and ensuring students have a positive experience and achieve their goals. She has also had strong success developing community partnerships, managing fiscal affairs and creating new revenue streams.
