HSU Animal Policy for Staff and Faculty

August 30, 2018

Dear Staff, Faculty and Administrators:

This is a reminder that the University implemented an updated Animal Policy in December, 2017. While HSU welcomes approved emotional support animals in residence halls and well-behaved, leashed animals on campus grounds, it is important to remember that only service animals (or assistive animals for employees as approved by HR) are allowed in non-residential campus buildings.

The policy is designed to provide reasonable accommodations under the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as protect the University from hazards associated with unapproved animals entering non-residential buildings. Employees should familiarize themselves with the HSU Animal Policy, which includes information on the distinctions between emotional support animals and service animals. For any questions, please contact the Human Resources Office for further information.

Thank you,
