As we begin a new semester, I want to remind everyone how important it is to keep your bike secure on and around campus. Bikes are a popular way to get around, but unfortunately, they can also be targets for theft. A few simple steps can make a big difference:

• Registering bikes can help with recovery and proof of ownership. Register your bike or electric transportation with the University Police Department (UPD) by visiting UPD on the first floor of the Student & Business Services (SBS) building.
  
  
• Always lock your bike to a designated rack using a sturdy U-lock. Students who register their bikes with UPD can get a FREE U-lock while supplies last.
  
  
• Choose well-lit areas, especially those near cameras.
  
  
• Keep a photo of your bike and the serial number just in case it’s ever stolen.
  
  
• Check on your bike daily if you aren’t going to be riding it very often.
