The use of an examination for the Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) has been suspended at the CSU system level. Therefore, HSU will no longer require students to take the Graduate Writing Proficiency Exam (GWPE) as a graduation requirement.

Graduate Writing Proficiency Exam (GWPE) Eliminated as of Friday, October 8th

• The GWPE Canvas site has been shut down.
• The GWPE website has been updated to reflect this change.
• All students who paid for the GWPE this semester had their charges reversed.
• Students who were registered to take the GWPE this fall have been contacted.

Advising Notes

• The Registrar’s Office removed the GWAR/GWPE requirement from students’ DARS and from the graduation checklist.
• All current students can be advised that the GWPE is no longer required for graduation this semester or in the future.
