Email Protection Update

January 7, 2026

To help protect campus accounts, ITS is improving email protection beginning January 7.

This update will help block and hold spam, phishing, and other suspicious messages before they reach your inbox. You may notice fewer unwanted messages and, in some cases, that newsletters or marketing-style emails are held for review so you can decide whether to allow them.

Reviewing held messages
If a message is held, you can review it in either place:

  • The Daily Email Security Digest sent to your inbox, or

  • myHumboldt → Tools → My Quarantined Mail

From there, you can release messages you trust or delete ones you don’t want.
These messages are filtered before reaching Gmail, so they must be reviewed using the digest or the My Quarantined Email tool.

Reporting suspicious email
If you receive a message that looks suspicious, please use the Report Suspicious button in Gmail rather than forwarding the message to the ITS Help Desk or Security.

Using the Report Suspicious button sends the message directly to our security tools and helps us respond faster while protecting others on campus.
