Eleven Jacks Named to the 2021-22 NFCA Scholar-Athlete Team
Eleven members of the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks’ Softball Team, under the direction of head coach Shelli Sarchett, were named to the 2021-22 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athlete Team. These eleven are Aimee Alvarado, Morgan Brant, Katelyn Dendas, Megan Escobar, Megan Holt, Jordan Montgomery, Tessa Poirier, Alyssa Ramirez, Julia Rivera, Vanessa Saltos and Izzy Starr.
“We stress the importance of academics in our program and our student-athletes work hard on and off the field to make sure they fulfill the standard that is put upon them,” said Sarchett. “It is an honor and we are proud of all our ladies for their continued work!”
The eleven student-athletes earned the prestigious academic awards from the NFCA by recording at least a 3.5 GPA during the 2021-22 academic year. As a team, the Jacks posted a 3.33 grade point average this academic year with a 3.29 grade point average in the fall and a 3.36 in the spring semester.
Starr was selected to the 2022 Academic All-District Team as selected by CoSIDA in May. Ten Jacks were named to the 2021-22 CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll in Morgan Brant, Katelyn Dendas, Megan Escobar, Micaela Harris, Megan Holt, Tessa Poirier, Ciera Pyle, Alyssa Ramirez, Vanessa Saltos and Izzy Starr.
Besides earning honors in the classroom, four Jacks earned honors for their performance on the softball field as they earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) honors. Micaela Harris was a First Team selection and JoAna Mullins, Vanessa Saltos and Izzy Starr were Second Team honorees as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Harris was named to the NFCA All-American Third Team earlier this summer. She was a NFCA First Team All-West Region honoree as well as a D2CCA First Team All-West Region selection.
