Eighty Lumberjacks Named to the 2021-22 CCAA All-Academic Team

August 2, 2022

ARCATA, Calif.---- Eighty Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjack student-athletes were named to the 2021-22 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Academic Team, as announced by the conference office this morning.  These 80 students represent more than half of the students who participated in a CCAA sport this past year at Humboldt.

A total of 935 student-athletes from across the 12 CCAA institutions collected CCAA All-Academic honors in 2021-22 for posting a 3.40 grade-point average or higher and earning a varsity letter in a conference-sponsored sport during the designated academic year.

The eighty student-athletes receiving this honor are the sixth most in the conference with Chico State with the most student-athletes receiving this honor with 118 followed by San Francisco State at 109 and Cal State San Marcos at 100.  Rounding out the top six are Sonoma State 92, Cal Poly Pomona 90 and Cal Poly Humboldt 80.

“Our Student-Athletes never cease to impress me with their drive, commitment, and capability,” said Cal Poly Humboldt Assistant Athletic Director, Amanda Nelson. “With only 75% of our student athletes even able to qualify for this award (rowing is a member of the GNAC conference), this is an impressive achievement.”

The CCAA began handing out All-Academic honors in 2005-06, and the 935 selections are the most for any season, not including the COVID years. It eclipsed the 900 student-athletes to earn the honor in 2018-19.

The CCAA sponsors the following sports:  baseball, men’s/women’s basketball, men’s/women’s cross country, men’s/women’s golf, men’s/women’s soccer, men’s/women’s outdoor track and field, softball and women’s volleyball.

Humboldt is a member of the CCAA in men’s/women’s basketball, men’s/women’s cross country, men’s/women’s soccer, men’s/women’s outdoor track and field, softball and women’s volleyball.

Introduced in the 2005-06 season, the annual All-Academic Award recognizes undergraduate student-athletes who competed in a Conference-sponsored sport and earned a varsity letter during the academic year while also earning a 3.40 grade-point average or higher during the designated academic year.
