Eight Members of the Humboldt State Women’s Rowing Team Named GNAC FAR Recipients

Eight Humboldt State University student-athletes were named recipients of the tenth annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Faculty Athletic Representative's Scholar-Athlete Award, presented by Barnes and Noble College.  There was a total of a record 350 GNAC student-athletes represented on this year's list.'

The eight members of the 2020-21 Humboldt State University women's crew team that received the GNAC Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) Scholar-Athlete Award.  are Cassidy Hollenbeck, Kiersytn Hughes, Hannah Josang, Loredana Mangrau, Autumn Pecarovich, Kealey Scott, Haley Skinner and Hannah Shapiro.  This is Shapiro’s second time receiving this honor while this is the first time for Hollenbeck, Hughes, Josang, Mangrau, Pecarovich, Scott and Skinner.

 The 258 women and 92 men are being recognized for compiling a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 or greater. All student-athletes listed on any squad at a GNAC institution, regardless of whether the sport is a GNAC championship, are eligible for the award. Conference affiliate members could nominate student-athletes only from the sport in which they compete in the GNAC.

This year’s 350 honorees is up from the previous record of 322 set in 2019-20 and well up from the 248 honorees recognized during the 2018-19 academic year.

Back in May, Hollenbeck, Mangrau, Pecarovich, Scott and Skinner were named to the Department’s Presidential Scholar List while Hughes was named to the Dean’s List for the Spring Semester.

 The Lumberjacks are an affiliated member of the GNAC in women's crew.

 Presented annually to the most outstanding student-athletes at each GNAC institution, the award honors those student-athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 or higher.  All student-athletes, including redshirts, listed on any squad list at a GNAC full member institution, regardless of whether the sport is a GNAC championship sport, are eligible for the award.  Conference affiliated members could nominate student-athletes from the sports in which they compete in the GNAC.

A faculty athletic representative (FAR) is a member of the faculty at an NCAA member institution who has been designed to serve as a liaison between the institution's faculty and the athletic department.  The FAR serves as a representative of the institution in conference and NCAA affairs.  The role of the FAR is "to ensure the academic institution establishes and maintains the appropriate between academics and athletics".

 As a team, the Lumberjacks recorded the second highest gpa amongst the four rowing teams in the conference.  Seattle Pacific was first at 3.51 followed by the ‘Jacks at 3.44 and Western Washington third at 3.42
