Eboni N. Turnbow has been named Interim Dean of Students, which is an extended interim appointment, and will begin on Tuesday, September 3. She was the Assistant Director in the Office for Student Engagement at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Currently, Eboni is a Sociology doctoral candidate at Wayne State University (WSU) specializing in the impact of gender and race within work organizations. She earned her M.Ed. in College Student Affairs Leadership at Grand Valley State University, and her B.S. in Secondary Education and Health Studies at WSU. 

"I am excited to join the HSU community. I can't wait to lead and learn from the dedicated staff and faculty at HSU to ensure student success,” says Eboni. “I plan to use my student-centered experience and work ethic to help the campus community achieve new heights."

Eboni serves on the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region IV-E regional board as the Regional Engagement Coordinator, as well as the Research and Scholarship Co-Chair on the NASPA Women in Student Affairs Knowledge Community national board. She also serves on the Education Advisory Group national board for the National Association for Campus Activities.

“Eboni’s experience is rooted not only in student services but also equity and inclusion, specifically in higher education,” says Interim Vice President of Enrollment Management Jason Meriwether. “Eboni's perspective, complemented by her robust experience with assessment and strategic planning, will be immensely valuable to our students and we are looking forward to her leadership and guidance in this role.

She is a Past President of the American College Personnel Association Michigan, a state division of ACPA. Eboni is a published author, with her most recent co-authored book chapter, When Intersections Collide: Young Black Women Combat Sexism, Racism, and Ageism in Higher Education. Eboni has also published numerous articles including a co-authored publication, Challenge, Support, Accountability: Opportunities for Women of Color. Other publications include New Professionals Battle Ageism and Sexism for Career Success and Campus Activities: Enhancing Student Retention while Developing Leaders of Tomorrow. 

She was recognized by Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated as the National Greek Advisor of the Year, by National Association for Campus Activities with the C. Shaw Smith New Professional Award, NASPA IV-E for the Outstanding New Professional Award, and the Academic Staff Professional Development committee at WSU with the Outstanding Contributor Award. She is a proud and active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

Eboni enjoys traveling, especially internationally. She appreciates exploring different cultures and experimenting with new foods. Also, in her spare time, she likes to work out and participate in athletic races such as the Tough Mudder. Most importantly, she loves being with family and friends and creating new memories.
