Don't Fall for 'Shared Documents' Emails from Someone Outside Cal Poly Humboldt

November 15, 2022

Cal Poly Humboldt is seeing an increase in “imposter” Document Sharing emails that claim to be from the University President, a VP, a Department Chair, or other leader.

Take these simple steps to avoid getting scammed:

  • Be wary of unexpected Shared Documents claiming to be from campus leaders.

  • Double-check the “real” Sender name before opening the shared document.

  • Don’t enter your Cal Poly Humboldt credentials in any external Web page.

  • Please either open a Help Desk ticket, or forward the message to: iso-staff@humboldt.edu

These emails typically come from email addresses similar to

3X4ttYxcKBU4t7yBu-8xq7u8-t2-347u51Ew44w1u.s42xxHMGxA2r41t9.utA @ doclist.bounces.google.com

and are designed to steal your Cal Poly Humboldt credentials upon clicking the Document link, which opens an external authentication form.

It can be hard to see the sender’s actual name, as opposed to the displayed alleged Requestor name.  However, you can see who really initiated the email in the first line of the message.  You will also see a small Warning at the bottom, that the Sender is outside of our organization.
