DeJerez Named CCAA Track & Field Athlete of the Week

April 20, 2016

SAN RAMON, Calif. – Humboldt State's Alyssabeth DeJerez has rewritten the school record book after her historic weekend on the track. The junior has been named the Female Track & Field Athlete of the Week for her performances last weekend in Southern California, the California Collegiate Athletic Association announced Tuesday.

"She is a phenomenal athlete," said Head Coach Scott Pesch. "For Alyssabeth to break the record in the 400, as well as the hurdles, just shows that she is taking advantage of her opportunity and making her mark."

DeJerez competed in a trio of Los Angeles area meets on April 14-16, which included personal records, program records, and NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying Marks. The Bonita, Calif., native opened her week placing first overall in the Women's 400 Meter Hurdles after posting a school record 59.23 in the event at the Cal State LA Twilight Open. The junior's time currently ranks second in NCAA DII this year, and is one of only three Division II times clocking in under a minute. She topped that result the following day with a school record 54.50 time in the 400 Meter Dash at the 58th Annual Mt. Sac Relays, shattering a decade-old mark atop HSU's All-Time List, and the eighth-quickest Division II time this season. DeJerez capped her weekend posting the HSU's second fastest 200m dash time in program history with her section-winning 24.94 in the Beach Invitational 400 Meter Dash. DeJerez has now hit the NCAA NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying Mark in both the 400 Meters and the 400 Meter Hurdles.

DeJerez joins teammate Ariel Oliver, who was recognized as CCAA Athlete of the Week for March 7-13, on this year's recipient list, and making HSU one of only three schools with multiple Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week selections this season.

"We are in such a competitive conference and to have two of our athletes recognized on separate occasions and get that CCAA Athlete of the Week award is phenomenal for the program," said Pesch. "It's icing on the cake after such a strong weekend. We're so proud of Alyssabeth and this team, there is so much good coming out of this program right now."

The Lumberjacks travel to Southern Oregon this weekend to compete in the Raider Invitational on April 22-23.
