Dale Oliver to Serve as New Dean of CNRS

February 20, 2019

Dear HSU Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Dale R. Oliver, Professor of Mathematics, will serve as the next dean of the College of Natural Resources and Sciences (CNRS) at Humboldt State University.

Dr. Oliver has served as Interim Dean of CNRS since June 1, 2018. His appointment as Dean begins immediately. Dr. Oliver earned a B.A. in Mathematics Education from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI), after which he taught high school mathematics in Detroit, MI. He earned MS and PhD degrees in Mathematics from Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO), and joined the faculty in Humboldt State University's Department of Mathematics in Fall 1991.

Dr. Oliver's faculty career focused on the preparation and development of K-12 teachers of mathematics. Professor Oliver created and taught courses for pre-service elementary, middle, and high school teachers, led instruction in numerous grant-funded professional development programs for K-12 teachers and university mathematics faculty, organized and presented at regional, state and national professional meetings, and helped form state standards for undergraduate subject matter preparation of teachers of mathematics. Most recently, he has worked to implement inclusive pedagogy into his courses, and to improve access to, and quality of, HSU's general education coursework in quantitative reasoning.

At various times during his career Dr. Oliver served as the Associate Dean of the College of Natural Resources and Sciences, chair for the departments of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Oceanography, and chair of the HSU School of Education.

Please join me in welcoming Dale Oliver as the new Dean of CNRS!

Dr. Alex Enyedi
