Classroom 110 Closure at Siemens Hall

August 21, 2019

On Tuesday evening, while Custodial Staff were preparing the floor of Classroom 110 for waxing, tiles began to pop loose due to the preparation activity.  Due to asbestos surveys on record, we are presuming that there is a likelihood that the floor tile and the mastic contain low levels of asbestos.  Best practices indicate that access only needs to be restricted to the work area. Consequently, the building does not need to be evacuated.

As a precautionary measure, we will be removing and replacing the floor tile.  As per industry practice, we will be turning off the HVAC system during removal of the tile at 6:00-9:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

The classroom will back on line by 3:00 pm Friday afternoon, after installation and waxing of the new floor tile and furniture set-up is complete.

We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience while we address this issue.  If you have any concerns, please contact Kim Comet, Risk Management & Safety Services Director, at x3305.
