CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ON MARCH 8
Dear University Community:
On Tuesday, March 8, countries around the world will mark the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women on International Women’s Day.
Observed since 1911, International Women’s Day goes beyond celebrations to include awareness of the gender bias and inequity that exist today—it’s also a call to action. International Women’s Day sponsors have launched the Pledge For Parity campaign, which provides an opportunity to make a commitment to parity.
One of Humboldt State’s core values is social justice and the belief we can make the world a better place through inclusivity, diversity, and equality. As an educational institution and as a campus community, our University has the responsibility to foster open dialogue—whether through the curriculum, events, or other channels—with the hope of building awareness and implementing real changes.
We must all work together to develop lasting solutions to social, economic, and political challenges to equality. International Women’s Day seeks to address the barriers facing women and girls, while also honoring their achievements and the progress that has been made.
Please join me on March 8 in recognizing International Women’s Day at Humboldt State. I encourage all students, faculty, and staff to consider these issues while celebrating girls and women.
Sincerely,
Lisa A. Rossbacher, Ph.D.
President
