Campus WiFi Lock Installation

Facilities Management has scheduled WiFi door lock upgrades for interior doors in academic buildings over summer break. This work is part of a continued campuswide upgrade for classrooms, labs, department offices, and conference rooms that began in Spring 2023. Individual faculty and staff offices will not be affected at this time. To date, upgrades have been completed in Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries, Harry Griffith Hall, Art B, Recreation & Wellness Center, Forbes Gym, Kinesiology & Athletics, Van Matre Hall, Theatre Arts, Gist Hall (in progress), and Trinity Early Learning Center.
The principal features of this lock include a shelter in place button to secure the room operated at the lock, anti-microbial handles, and real-time remote updates for access changes. The locks also feature encrypted contactless entry, pin pad readers with access codes in some locations, and the ability to provide maintenance information to Facilities if repairs are needed.
Installation scheduling and key access is being coordinated by Facilities with installations being performed by a contractor. During installation some construction noise will be generated while retrofitting the lock.
A building installation schedule is provided below. Due to the large volume of locks being installed, some scheduling changes may occur. Coordination to have minimal disruption to summer classes and conferences has been considered.
Installation schedule is as follows:
June 24 - July 5: Siemens Hall, Alistair McCrone Hall
June 24 - July 12: Natural Resources
July 1 - July 12: Library, Founders Hall, Science B
July 8 - July 19: Science A, C
July 15 - July 26: Behavioral & Social Sciences, Student Business Services
FM has reviewed current key records and added access to key holders' existing card keys for the new locks. Existing cards will work on the new lock as soon as they are installed. There are some key holders who do not have an existing card compatible with the new locks. They will be issued a replacement card by FM and an email will be sent when the card is ready for pickup. Any scheduled unlock times will be retained and programmed to the new WiFi locks.
