Campus Open As Usual Following Earthquake

March 10, 2014

Humboldt State University is open as usual today, and no major damage was reported following Sunday night’s magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

The earthquake struck off the coast approximately 40 miles west of Eureka at 10:18 p.m. Sunday night. There was no tsunami danger.

The earthquake was widely felt throughout Humboldt County, but there have been no reports of major damage or injuries. It lasted for about 30 seconds, shaking homes and knocking some items off store shelves.

The campus did not suffer major damage or lose power following the earthquake. Staff assessed the situation immediately, and are conducting a more detailed review today. In addition, Housing staff walked the residence halls last night to reassure students.

As a reminder, when you feel an earthquake Drop, Cover and Hold On. Stay informed by tuning into local news and radio.
