February 21, 2022

ARCATA, Calif.--- The Cal Poly Humboldt women’s crew team is tied for eighth in the 2022 with Jefferson College in the 2022 NCAA Division II Pocock CRCA Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

The ‘Jacks, under the guidance of second-year head coach Matt Weise, received 21 votes as did Jefferson College.  Fellow Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents, University of Central Oklahoma, Seattle Pacific and Western Washington join the ‘Jacks in the preseason poll.  Reigning NCAA Division II National Champion and GNAC Champion, Central Oklahoma, claimed the top spot. Seattle Pacific is fifth while Western Washington is sixth.

"I am looking forward to a full competitive season,” said head coach Matt Weise.  “The team is very young but talented and should be able to grow in speed throughout the season."

Humboldt returns 2021 All-GNAC performer, Malia Seeley, to this year’s squad along with Taylor Carrington, Kealey Scott and Cassidy Hollenbeck who all competed at last year’s GNAC Championship in Vancouver, Washington.

The ‘Jacks also participated in the GNAC Championships during the 2021 season.  They have not competed in a full schedule since the 2019 season.  Humboldt captured the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2012 and 2014.

Cal Poly Humboldt had a strong showing at the Head of the Lagoon this fall in Redwood City, California.  The ‘Jacks will return to the water on Saturday, March 12 at the Sacramento State Regatta.  Their home regatta is set for March 26 at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.

The WIRA Championships will take place April 30-May 1 in Sacramento, Calif.  Two weeks later, Humboldt will be in Dexter Lake, Oregon, participating in the GNAC Rowing Championships. They will look to qualify for the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championships which will take place May 27-29 in Sarasota, Florida.
