Cal Poly Humboldt’s Joy Hano Named CCAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Cal Poly Humboldt women’s track and field student-athlete Joy Hano was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office this morning. 

 Hano received this honor after her performance this Saturday at the Humboldt Invitational that was held in the Redwood Bowl on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt. 

 She started her afternoon on the field with a second place and personal best jump of 17-6 (5.33m) in the long jump.  In her next event of the day, Hano finished in first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 14.85.  Hano is now sixth on the Lumberjack top ten list in the 100-meter hurdles. About thirty minutes later, Hano ran a 12.63 to finish in third place in the 100-meter dash.  In her final event of the day, Hano joined teammates Kayla Penny, Valerie Heywood and Grace Kasberger in second place with a time of 4:02.87 in the 4x400 relay.

 In the recent CCAA performance list, Hano third in the 100-meter hurdles, fifth in the 4x400 relay team, seventh in the long jump and 13th in the 100-meter dash.

 Cal Poly Humboldt returns to competition this weekend in the Bay Area for a pair of meets.  They will start in Haywood, Calif., on Thursday, March 31 as the throwers will participate in the Chabot College Invitational.  The Jacks will continue their weekend in San Francisco as the sprinters, distance runners, jumpers, vaulters and hurdlers will be in San Francisco competing in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at Cox Stadium on the campus of San Francisco State University on Friday-Saturday, April 1-2.
