Advancement Foundation is Now 'Humboldt State University Foundation'

April 8, 2019

The Humboldt State University Advancement Foundation has changed its name to Humboldt State University Foundation.  The Board of Directors made this change because the word "advancement" in the foundation's name had little meaning or value from the donor's perspective.  In addition, the word "advancement" invited confusion of the Foundation and its business with the division of University Advancement.

The Humboldt State University Advancement Foundation was created in 1928 as the "Humboldt State Teacher's College Improvement Association."  Since 1947 it has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).  In 1960 it was renamed the "College Improvement Foundation" and in 2004 it was renamed "The Humboldt State University Advancement Foundation."  In 2019 it became "Humboldt State University Foundation."

Although the legal name change is effective now, plans are to roll out the new identity over time as printed materials are used up and directories, signage, and web pages are updated.
