ACTION: Employees Who are New to Cal Poly Humboldt as of December 1, 2019

January 30, 2023

Your Action:  No later than February 13th you are asked to respond to the linked questionnaire to fulfill requirements of CalPoly Humboldt's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). If you already completed this survey, you may disregard this message.

Why:  The questionnaire will help identify IIPP mandatory California Occupational Safety and Health training needs across campus. Based on your responses, training may be assigned to you and/or your team. Status will be reported to the California State University (CSU) Trustees and President Jackson.

Background
In 2019 CSU’s Chancellor’s Office Audit and Advisory Services audited Humboldt’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). The audit documented deficiencies. All deficiencies were closed out successsfully with corrective actions to be taken to ensure regulatory compliance in 2020 and help promote Health and Safety campuswide. Since the pandemic hit in 2020, we have been focusing on business continuity and assisting our campus community to be resilient to the challenges we have faced. As we embark on this new journey as a Cal Poly, moving forward as a united front: we are asking once again for your input to determine how to best protect all our partners:

IIPP requirements are codified in the California Code of Regulations, Title 8, §3203.  In part:

Every employer shall establish, implement and maintain an effective Injury and Illness Prevention Program (Program). The Program shall be in writing and, shall, at a minimum:

  • Identify the person or persons with authority and responsibility for implementing the Program.
  • Include a system for ensuring that employees comply with safe and healthy work practices.
  • Include procedures for identifying and evaluating work place hazards.
  • Provide training and instruction:
    • To all new employees;
    • To all employees for which training has not previously been received;
    • For supervisors to familiarize themselves with the safety and health hazards to which employees under their immediate direction and control may be exposed

On behalf of both RM&SS and HR, we thank you for your time and attention to this matter. If you have questions, please contact Sabrina Zink at Sabrina.Zink@Humboldt.edu or Alfredo Corral at Alfredo.Corral@Humboldt.edu.

Sincerely,
