Plan a Sober Ride and Get Home Safely
October 30, 2026
With an increase in impaired-driving incidents locally, the University Police Department (UPD) encourages campus community members to look out for one another and make a plan for getting home safely.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts everyone on the road at risk. Whether you're heading home after an evening out, attending a campus event or traveling with friends, planning ahead can help prevent accidents and keep our community safe.
A few ways to help keep yourself and others safe:
- Before the event, choose a designated driver who agrees to stay sober.
- Plan your ride. Arrange a sober ride and consider using a rideshare service such as Uber, Lyft, or taxi services, or carpooling with a designated driver.
- Look out for one another. Check in with friends, help each other make safe decisions, and never let someone who is impaired get behind the wheel.
- Reach out for help. If you have a safety concern or need assistance, contact UPD or local law enforcement. Officers are available to support the campus community.
Remember, small decisions can make a big difference. As we head into the holiday season, have fun AND be safe.
