Spot it, Report it: Phishing Email Test Starts Tuesday

October 26, 2026

One of the simplest and most effective ways to protect Cal Poly Humboldt from cyber threats is to report suspicious emails, even if you're not sure if they're malicious.

Phishing emails are designed to trick you into clicking harmful links, downloading attachments, or sharing sensitive information. By reporting suspicious messages using the Report Suspicious button in your email, you help ITS identify threats and protect our campus community.

Put Your Phishing-Spotting Skills to the Test!

As part of our Cybersecurity Awareness Month activities, you'll receive a simulated phishing email from the ITS Security Team this week. This exercise gives us an opportunity to practice recognizing and reporting suspicious messages, helping build the habits that protect our campus from real cyber threats.

When you receive a suspicious email, whether it's part of our simulation or a real phishing attempt, take a closer look and report it using the Report Suspicious button.

Need a refresher on how to report suspicious emails? Visit our Phishing Reporting Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Remember: You don't need to be certain an email is malicious to report it. If something looks suspicious, report it!

Thank you for helping keep Cal Poly Humboldt secure!
