Open Forums: Associate Vice President for Human Resources Finalists

We are pleased to welcome finalists for the Associate Vice President for Human Resources position to Cal Poly Humboldt for on-campus interviews. As part of the finalist visits, the campus community is invited to attend open forums with each candidate.

Evans Lusuli — Thursday, August 27

Evans Lusuli is a human resources leader with more than 20 years of experience across higher education and the private sector. Most recently, he served as Senior Customer Success Manager with BetterComp, where he advised organizations on compensation, total rewards, market pricing, and global job architecture. His higher education experience includes serving as Director of Compensation at Virginia Tech and Director of Compensation and Human Resources Operations at Saint Mary’s College of California, as well as HR roles at UC Merced and Kennesaw State University. He holds an MBA and MS in Information Systems and maintains SPHR and SHRM-SCP certifications.

Michelle Caisse — Friday, August 28

Michelle Caisse currently serves as Interim Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer at Cal Poly Humboldt, where she provides university-wide leadership for employee and labor relations, civil rights and compliance, benefits, recruitment, classification and compensation, and payroll. She previously served as Director and Associate Director of Campus Human Resources and Recruitment Manager at Cal Poly Humboldt. Her experience includes labor relations, organizational change, HR service delivery, workforce planning, recruitment, compensation and classification, and compliance. She holds the SHRM-CP certification and is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist.

Ron Coverson — Wednesday, September 2

Ron Coverson currently serves as Associate Vice President of Human Resources at Cal State San Bernardino, where he leads a portfolio that includes payroll, benefits, administrative services, employment and talent acquisition, classification and compensation, and staff development. His higher education HR leadership experience also includes serving as Assistant Dean of Academic Personnel and Human Resources at the UC Berkeley School of Law, Senior Director of Human Resources, Talent Management and Workforce Planning at UC Berkeley, and Director of Human Resources/Associate Athletic Director at Stanford University. His experience includes strategic workforce planning, organizational change, employee and labor relations, talent management, HR service delivery, and policy administration. He holds an MBA in Organizational Management and is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at Cal State San Bernardino.

During the open forums, each finalist will present their approach to building a trusted, strategic, and service-oriented Human Resources department, including campus engagement, effective and accessible HR processes, and assessing HR's effectiveness in meeting the needs of the University community. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion.
