Summer 2026 - Campus Construction & Improvements Update

As we move into Summer 2026, Cal Poly Humboldt continues to make steady progress on a wide range of capital improvements across campus. From infrastructure upgrades to student-focused enhancements, these projects reflect our ongoing commitment to safety, sustainability, and an improved campus experience.

This summer’s work spans utilities, housing, athletics & recreation, accessibility, and academic facilities, with project locations distributed across campus. 

Infrastructure & Utilities Enhancements

Several key projects are focused on strengthening campus infrastructure and long-term resilience:

  • JGC Transformer Replacement will support reliable electrical service for core campus operations.

    • Planned construction duration: May - June 2026

  • Installation of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will enhance energy resilience and support campus sustainability goals.

    • Planned construction duration: May - November  2026

Student Housing & Residential Improvements

Work within campus housing areas will improve daily living conditions and long-term durability:

  • Creekview Shower Replacement upgrades essential for residential amenities.

    • Planned construction duration:  May - July 2026 

  • Sunset Court Paving will improve circulation and surface conditions. Work includes tree removal and asphalt replacement to repair safety issues

    • Planned construction duration:  May 20th - June 2026 

  • College Creek Painting and Gutter Replacement will refresh and maintain residential facilities.

    • Planned construction duration:  May 26th - August 2026

Academic & Program Improvements 

We continue to invest in facilities that directly support teaching, learning, and student success:

  • Science A Renovation remains a major academic priority, advancing planning and early construction efforts.

    • Planned construction duration:  July 2026 - January 2028 

  • Engineering & Technology Building continues construction progress as a cornerstone of the university’s polytechnic transformation.

    • Planned construction completion:  October 2026 

  • Health Education Hub advances as a key partnership project focused on building regional healthcare workforce capacity.

    • Planned construction duration:  February 2026 - August 2027 

  • Art B 202 Improvements will provide a photography room for the arts.

    • Planned construction duration:  May - August 2026 

  • Little Apartments Improvements will address building and site enhancements.

    • Planned construction duration:  TBD

  • Fulkerson Hall Acoustic Improvements will address acoustic issues and enhance accessibility.

    • Planned construction duration:  May - August 2026 

  • 697 8th Street (Plaza Building) will relocate College of Extended Education from main campus to the Plaza Building including the addition of an OLLI classroom.

    • Planned construction duration:  May - August 2026 

Athletics & Recreation Upgrades

Improvements to athletic facilities will support student athletes and campus recreation:

  • Redwood Bowl Turf Replacement will provide a renewed playing surface.

    • Planned construction duration:  June - July 2026  

  • Redwood Bowl Skybox Residing will improve facility durability and appearance.

    • Planned construction duration:  May - August 2026 

Campus Landscape & Outdoor Environment

Projects aimed at enhancing campus aesthetics and sustainability include:

  • Resilient Landscape Phase I, focused on sustainable planting and landscape strategies.

    • Planned construction duration:  May - September 2026

  • Jenkins Hall Landscaping, complementing the recently completed building renovation.

    • Planned construction duration:  May - September 2026 

  • Defensible Space Initiative. In coordination with Cal Fire, the campus will be performing strategic vegetation management and selective tree removal in the Canyon Housing area to improve wildfire preparedness and campus safety.  

    • Planned construction duration: June - July 2026

Accessibility & Parking Improvements

Efforts to improve access and circulation across campus include:

  • G11 ADA Parking Lot Improvements, enhancing accessibility and user experience.

    • Planned construction duration:  June - September 2026 

  • G14 Parking Lot Expansion, increasing parking capacity in a key campus location.

    • Planned construction duration: June - December 2026
