Y.E.S. Serve-a-Thon/ Cesar Chavez Day of Service

March 2, 2026

Looking for a meaningful way to give back while honoring Cesar Chavez?

Youth Educational Services (Y.E.S.) at Cal Poly Humboldt invites students, staff, and faculty to participate in their annual Serve-a-Thon volunteer event on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Potawot Community Food Garden. Held in honor of Cesar Chavez Day, this event provides an opportunity for volunteers to make meaningful contributions towards supporting food sovereignty and community wellness. Serve-a-Thon is not only a tradition to honor Cesar Chavez’s legacy of service and social justice, but also an opportunity to build connections, learn new skills, and make a difference.

Serve-a-Thon is Y.E.S.'s largest volunteer event of the year, and marks the grand finale of its annual fundraising campaign. Volunteers will help with outdoor projects such as weeding, tending greenhouse plants, harvesting fruits and vegetables, and caring for the orchard. These efforts directly support the Potawot Community Food Garden, part of United Indian Health Services, that provides fresh, healthy food for local Native families. Each year, up to 100 volunteers collectively contribute between 200 to 300 service hours in a single day, making a huge impact!

Participants will assist with outdoor projects, rain or shine, which may include weeding, tending greenhouse plants, orchard care, and other garden projects. Bus transportation will be provided for Cal Poly Humboldt students, staff and faculty. Pre-registered volunteers will receive additional details via email, including transportation schedules. Y.E.S. asks community volunteers to meet directly at the site at 9:30 a.m. (1801 Weeot Way - turn right down the Garden Access Road)

Registration is now open, and interested participants are encouraged to sign up no later than Thursday, March 26 at hum.link/YesServe to secure a spot.
