The Department of Mathemetics has formally changed their name to the Department of Mathematics & Data Science. This name change is supported by the College of Natural Resources and Sciences and department faculty, and was approved by the University Senate on October 14, 2025. 

This name change reflects the existing nature of the department's objectives and curriculum following Cal Poly Humboldt's polytechnic transformation. The Department of Mathematics & Data Science now houses two degree programs: the established Mathematics B.A. and the new Data Science B.S.
