UPD: Keeping Your Bike Secure

September 11, 2025

As we begin a new semester, I want to remind everyone how important it is to keep your bike secure on and around campus. Bikes are one of the most popular ways to get around, but unfortunately, they can also be a target for theft. A few simple steps can make a big difference:

  • Register your bike with the University Police Department (UPD)

  • Always lock your bike to a designated rack using a sturdy U-lock or security chain (When you register with UPD, you can get a free U-lock while supplies last)

  • Choose well-lit areas, especially those near cameras

  • Keep a photo of your bike just in case it’s ever stolen

  • Try not to leave your bike in the same spot for too long

Taking a little extra care goes a long way toward protecting your bike. Thank you for helping us keep our campus safe and secure!
