Unique ODEI Equity Fellow Opportunity
Cal Poly Humboldt’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) invites letters of interest for the position of ODEI Equity Fellow who will serve as the next Equity Arcata Co-Manager. This opportunity is part of ODEI’s Diversity and Equity Fellowship Program, dedicated to support the Equity Arcata partnership. This position offers a faculty or staff member the chance to support and enhance efforts to make Arcata a more inclusive, welcoming, and racially equitable community for all.
The ODEI Equity Fellow serves as the Co-Manager for Equity Arcata, working under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and in collaboration with the City of Arcata Equity Arcata Manager.
About Equity Arcata
Equity Arcata is an official partnership between Cal Poly Humboldt and the City of Arcata. This partnership is dedicated to fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community for the area’s Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, and all community members. With a goal of collective impact, the Equity Arcata organization convenes equity-focused organizations to build a collaborative network and leverages resources to support campus and community equity initiatives. Equity Arcata focuses on three primary areas:
Building Collaborative Networks – Connecting organizations to advance equity work and drive systems change.
Facilitating Collective Action – Convening and supporting communication for timely community responses to equity-related events and needs.
Resources for Equity Initiatives – Allocating resources to support community-based equity initiatives, including projects, events, research, and engagement.
Equity Arcata’s goal is to promote meaningful and strategic engagement between Cal Poly Humboldt and all community organizations so that all of our community members feel supported, and have robust opportunities for belonging, and thrive.
Duties & Responsibilities of the Equity Fellow, in Partnership with the City of Arcata Equity Arcata Manager
Serve as a non-voting member and liaison to the Equity Arcata Governing Board.
Provide strategic funding recommendations for community-based equity initiatives.
Co-supervise ODEI student fellows assigned to support Equity Arcata.
Develop and implement strategic planning efforts for Equity Arcata’s long-term vision.
Coordinate training and workshops focused on equity and belonging.
Seek and apply for grant funding opportunities to sustain equity efforts.
Produce regular reports on events, activities, and impact.
Must be able to work during normal business hours, and occasional evenings and weekends.
Attend regular meetings with ODEI and the City of Arcata.
Participate in ongoing Equity Arcata-related committees.
This role is a dynamic opportunity for community leadership to engage with community partners, advocate for systemic change, and strengthen local equity efforts.
Compensation
The Equity Fellow is compensated at the equivalent of three Weighted Teaching Units (WTUs) replacement (backfill) per semester for full-time faculty, prorated for the Spring 2025 semester and summer. WTUs will be available for a faculty incumbent for Academic Year 2025/26. A part-time faculty incumbent will be compensated as a Special Consultant at an hourly rate according to current Academic Personnel Services policy. A full-time staff incumbent will be compensated at a 20-25% replacement rate. A part-time staff incumbent will be compensated at an hourly rate according to current Human Resources policy.
