Fall 2024 Building Access and Safety Program
The Summer 2024 building access and safety pilot program (formerly known as the campus locking program) provided valuable insights into what is required for implementing a year-round campus building access and safety program. Based on feedback, the pilot underscores the need to continue to work on infrastructure to enable a mobile-based locking system in the near future. A mobile-based system will ensure better security, while improving the user experience by allowing active access without the need to modify physical key cards. This system will be available in our new student housing project and with our progress towards the replacement of interior campus locks. In addition, the pilot has better defined the staffing levels needed to support a program under current and future infrastructure.
The Fall 2024 semester will have open building hours similar to prior academic years, with modifications to specific buildings as outlined below. See the building hours website for details. This will provide the best experience for campus users while giving the University time to build out the elements needed for successful infrastructure improvement and implementation timeline.
- High-utilization buildings will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. These building hours are similar to the last academic year.
- Other buildings will be open 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. based on classes and other scheduled events and activities.
- All buildings will be locked on the weekends, with the exception of the buildings listed on the building hours website.
- All buildings will be locked on holidays and campus closure days.
- Faculty and Staff will be issued key access to all major academic buildings that will allow access anytime during or outside building open hours. Upon department key request, these keys will also have specific room access requested through the department key request process.
- Students who have academic courses or research that occurs outside building open hours may work with the corresponding academic department to submit a key request.
- Events that require scheduling outside of building open hours will be facilitated by Conference & Event Services.
- Fall 2024 Building Hours will begin August 15, 2024.
