 ‘JACK SOFTBALL TO BEGIN 2022 SEASON THIS WEEK

Cal Poly Humboldt’s softball team will begin their 2022 season this week with an eight-game road trip. The Lumberjacks will be in Hayward, Calif., this Wednesday, February 2 for a 10am starting doubleheader with Holy Names University.  On Thursday, Humboldt will travel to the state of Colorado for six games.  Humboldt’s trip to Colorado will begin on Friday, February 4 in Colorado Springs against UC-Colorado Springs with a 1pm (MT) starting doubleheader.  The ‘Jacks trip will continue in Denver on Saturday, February 5 for a noon (MT) starting doubleheader with Regis University.  Humboldt’s trip will conclude with a 11am (MT) starting doubleheader with MSU-Denver in Denver. 

 

‘JACKS GO 2-0 ON HOME STAND

Cal Poly Humboldt women’s basketball team went 2-0 in their two-game home stand this weekend to improve to 6-9 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA.  The ‘Jacks started with a 69-58 win over Chico State to sweep the season series from the Wildcats.  Jadence Clifton paced Humboldt with 24 points while Madison Parry chipped in 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Ashley Peralta added 13 points and Kaz Parks scored 10 points.  Humboldt finished its home stand with a 61-45 win over Stanislaus State on Saturday behind a total team effort.  Three players recorded double-doubles in Parry (17 points, 17 rebounds), Clifton (14 points, 10 assists) and Citlaly Davalos (17 points, 12 rebounds).  With eight games remaining in the regular season, Humboldt is tied for seventh place just a half-game out of sixth place.  The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a bid to the CCAA Championships, March 3-5, that will be held in Lumberjack Arena.

 

HUMBOLDT DROPS TWO AT HOME

The ‘Jack men’s basketball team went 0-2 this weekend at home to fall to 10-8 overall and 4-8 in the CCAA.  Humboldt started its home stand with a 66-58 loss to No. 13 Chico State on Thursday.  Jaden Edwards paced Humboldt with 13 points and 11 rebounds. AJ Sims scored 11 points off the bench for the ‘Jacks.  The Lumberjacks finished the weekend with a 64-40 loss to Stanislaus State.  Edwards and Cam Timmons each had 10 points to lead the way for the ‘Jacks.  The ‘Jacks sit in seventh place in the CCAA standings heading into the final eight games of the regular season.  They are one game out of sixth place.  The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a bid to the CCAA Championships, March 3-5, that will be held in Lumberjack Arena.

TRACK AND FIELD STARTS ON FEB. 12 HOSTING GREEN AND GOLD

Cal Poly Humboldt men’s and women’s track and field teams will begin their 2022 season on Saturday, February 12 hosting the Green and Gold in Redwood Bowl. This will be the beginning of a 11-meet regular season schedule for the ‘Jacks.  Humboldt will host its Humboldt Invitational on Saturday, March 26.

 CLIFTON AND PARRY ARE THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

This week’s Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks’ Student-Athletes are a pair of Lumberjack women’s basketball players in Jadence Clifton and Madison Parry.

 Clifton played a key role in the Lumberjacks' 2-0 weekend as Humboldt is right back in the race for the top six spots for the CCAA Basketball Tournament. The freshman guard started the weekend with a career high 24 points in Humboldt's 69-58 win over Chico State. She finished the weekend with her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 assists in the 'Jacks' 61-45 win over Stanislaus State.

 Parry averaged 15.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in the 'Jacks 2-0 weekend.  The freshman guard/forward shot 60% from the field and 71% from the line while blocking three shots. She recorded back to back double-doubles for her fourth and fifth of the season. Parry finished the weekend with a 17-points, 13-rebounds, three blocked shot performance in the Lumberjacks' 16-point win over Stanislaus State.
