Statement on Juneteenth Federal Holiday
President Biden today made June 19th (Juneteenth) a federal holiday, which means all federal employees will have tomorrow – the day of this year’s observance of the holiday – off from work. The Chancellor’s Office has been in communication with the Governor’s Office regarding potential state recognition of this holiday, which may come at a later date. If it is adopted, the CSU would need to meet with its bargaining units and make adjustments to its calendars prior to incorporating Juneteenth as a new holiday for state workers. Accordingly, tomorrow – Friday, June 18th – is not a holiday for California state employees.
