Coordinator of the African American Center for Academic Excellence Appointed

July 11, 2019

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas Smith as the new Coordinator for the African American Center for Academic Excellence.

Doug hails from Los Angles, California where he was a Teen and Young Adult Services Special Assistant, providing case management and leadership development programs that supported underserved youth.  He was also the primary point of contact for teens and young adults who sought career pathways or post-secondary education opportunities.  Doug brings to HSU his positive experiences and student-centered leadership—vital components for student access and success.

Doug is a proud graduate of Humboldt State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies in 2015.  He also received a Master Gardener Certification from the University of California Cooperative Extension Program in Los Angeles.

Doug is excited to give back to the campus and the local community, which he credits as instrumental to his success as a student at HSU.

We are excited to have Doug join our team!  Please join us in extending him a warm welcome when he begins July 22nd.

Sincerely,

W. Wayne Brumfield, Ph.D.
Interim Vice President of Student Affairs
