Message From The Dean Of Students: Retirement Of Kevin O’Brien & Campus Reception Invitation
Dear Colleagues,
As many of you are aware, Kevin O’Brien, Director for Student Access Services, is also retiring at the end of June 2018.
Kevin earned his Master of Arts in Psychology at HSU and later served as the Program Coordinator for the HSU School Psychologist 5th year program. He opened a private practice as a Marriage and Family therapist and later served as the principal for Lincoln Elementary School in Eureka and continued to work in the K-12 schools for Humboldt County Office of Education and Eureka City Schools before returning to HSU to take the position as the HSU Student Disability Resource Center Director with oversight of SDRC and the HSU Testing Center. About 7 years ago, management oversight of the HSU Veterans Services Center was added to Kevin’s portfolio and Kevin became the Student Access Services Director. In collaboration with his colleagues in SDRC, Testing, and Veterans Services, Kevin has ensured access and support services for the Student Access Services program students.
Kevin has been a tremendous colleague and a strong advocate of student success. The on and off campus collaborative relationships that Kevin has developed over the years has well served our HSU community. Of particular note, is Kevin’s never-ending recognition of the great work of his colleagues Linda, Mary, Cassandra, Kim Coughlin-Lamphear, Frankie, Maricela, Kayla, and Kim Hall. Kevin is always quick to acknowledge the work of others and always, without fail, mentions how fortunate he is to work with such high-quality colleagues.
KEVIN AND I ARE HOSTING A RECEPTION FOR THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, FROM 3:00-5:00 P.M., IN THE GOODWIN FORUM TO THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND WORK ON BEHALF OF HSU STUDENTS. WHATEVER SUCCESSES WE HAVE ENJOYED DURING OUR TENURE AT HUMBOLDT STATE UNIVERSITY, WE OWE TO ALL OF YOU.
Hope to see you next Wednesday.
Take care,
Randi Darnall Burke
Kevin O’Brien
