HSU TO LIVE-STREAM WHITE HOUSE EVENT ON SUSTAINABILITY
The White House Council on Environmental Quality has been contacting Universities nationwide to marshal support for the White House American Campuses Act on Climate initiative ahead of the Paris Conference of the Parties (COP) 21 talks on climate action. Over 150 institutions have responded with their pledge letters.
The Office of the Chancellor responded with a pledge that will cover the entire system based on the Board of Trustees policy and goals. Additionally, Humboldt State University also pledged support for the White House American Campuses Act on Climate, demonstrating Humboldt State's commitment to carrying out our own sustainability goals and supporting strong action on climate change by world leaders. HSU's pledge letter is attached.
On November 19, the White House is launching the American Campuses Act on Climate day-of-action. The multi-layered day-of-action will include a roundtable with campus and business leaders, White House officials, and celebrities to highlight best practices to promote sustainability and address climate change on college campuses. An interactive, live-streamed conversation will also facilitate a meaningful dialogue to push for increased global action. This live-streamed day-of-action will also launch the Defend Our Future climate pledge students can sign to demonstrate their support.
HSU will live-stream the University Day of Action in the Goodwin Forum at noon on Thursday, November 19. Humboldt's Sustainability Director, Tall Chief Comet, and the Sustainability Coordinator, Morgan King, will discuss with attendees what the campus is doing right now for planning reductions of GHG emissions. They will also be sharing information on a GIS project that demonstrates local impact of climate change on Humboldt Bay.
