Many Campus Websites to Appear as ‘www2’ – No Action Needed
Shortly after server maintenance is conducted on Oct. 19, many campus websites will begin appearing with “www2” in the address bar of web browsers. This is related to work to move HSU’s main website to an off-campus server.
The change in appearance does not require any action or fixes on the part of website owners. It will not change how the websites work. It will not change the experience for visitors, who will still be able to get to sites using the same website address as before. The only difference will be the way the address appears in the address bar. Rather than “www.humboldt.edu/sitename,” visitors will see “www2.humboldt.edu/sitename.”
The address bar change will not be permanent. Please do not make any changes to the way you promote your website in print, and do not direct visitors to use “www2”. Using “www” will still take visitors to the correct site.
The use of “www2” is a necessary step as the University moves its main, public-facing website to an off-campus server managed by Pantheon. This transition is being coordinated by Marketing & Communications and Information Technology Services. It will likely take quite some time to complete the transition, with some sites remaining on campus servers for two or more years.
