Sofia Pereira is a graduate of Humboldt State University and is currently serving as Humboldt County Public Health Director. She is well known in the community for her past role as Arcata mayor and member of the Arcata City Council.  Ms. Pereira has extensive experience in politics, including her work for the group She Should Run recruiting women to run for public office.

Sarah Schaefer was elected to the Arcata City Council in 2020 and serves as Vice-Mayor for the City of Arcata. A Humboldt County native, she is a graduate of Arcata High, Lewis and Clark College and Humboldt State University.  She is a teacher in Humboldt County Schools and is active in community organizations, such as Lost Coast Rotaract.

The lecture series' namesake, Victor Schaub, was an Arcata civil attorney and professional mediator who was elected to the City Council in 1988 and served two terms, until 1996. He served as mayor from 1990-95. Victor died in 2004 at the age of 60, and the Victor Schaub Memorial Lecture series was established in his honor.
